NSHP: who it helps and what to bring

Opens the official government site.

Who can do this

Poor and vulnerable families, such as people in very bad housing or who lost their home to fire or disaster. You must own the land or have the right to live on it (a lease of at least 5 years).

What you need

Tick things off as you gather them.

Steps

  1. Make sure your land papers are in order. Land problems are the main reason applications are held up.
  2. Get the form from the Ministry or your MP’s constituency office.
  3. Get a support letter from your MP, a JP or a minister.
  4. Have a JP certify copies of your ID, TRN, land papers and any fire or disaster report.
  5. Hand in the form and documents.
  6. If approved, a contractor builds the house. You must live in it yourself.

Cost

Ask the Ministry.

How long

Building takes about 3 months once a contract is given.
