Who can do this

People born outside Jamaica whose mother or father was a Jamaican citizen when they were born.

What you need

• The Citizenship by Descent application form, signed by the Jamaican parent
• Your original birth certificate (with an English translation if needed)
• Your Jamaican parent’s original birth certificate
• Your parents’ marriage certificate, if they were married when you were born
• Any name change papers
• Two identical passport photos that meet PICA’s rules

Steps

1. Download the form and guidelines from PICA.
2. Gather originals or certified copies. Photocopies and scans are not accepted.
3. Submit at PICA in Jamaica, or at a Jamaican embassy or consulate overseas.
4. Once approved, you can apply for a Jamaican passport.
